Friendship Students Take Home the Win in 2nd Annual Battle of the Books
On May 11, students from Holmes and Friendship Junior Highs participated in the second Battle of the Books District Championship.
Battle of the Books is a collaborative reading program between CCSD59 Junior High Schools, which seeks to motivate students to competitively read for fun and improve their reading habits. Student teams read 10 books over the course of a few months of various genres that were of high interest to students.
After the students completed all the reading, the two schools held separate battles to determine their school’s winner, who then competed against each other for the district championship.
Each team was given a series of questions about the books they’ve read for the program and were awarded points for correct answers, with opportunities to steal points when opponents incorrectly answered. The team with the most points at the end of the competition won.
This year, the students who participated were from Friendship and Holmes Junior Highs. In the end, team Comma Splice from Friendship narrowly defeated team RANICO from Holmes to take the District title.
Congratulations to all students in both schools who participated in the book battle, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s duel.
