Photos: Eighth grade AVID students visit Northern Illinois University
CCSD59 junior high students enrolled in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program perform work that is designed to be engaging and prepare them for college and career opportunities. The research-based program allows students to enroll in advanced courses receive academic instruction and tutorial support, strengthen their writing skills, improve study and organizational skills, and gain “college knowledge”.
One of the ways this is done is through visits to college campuses. Students at Friendship, Grove, and Holmes Junior High have received this opportunity this fall with a trip to the University of Illinois Chicago having already taken place. This week, eighth grade students traveled to DeKalb to tour Northern Illinois University.
